Hailing from 1937, these certified organic vines are some of the most unique we’ve ever seen. Just a mile and a half from the Napa border on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas, located in what is the new Moon Mountain AVA, the vines are planted along steep, contoured terraces. Finding old vineyards is rare enough, but ancient hillside head-trained vines located 900 feet up? Downright extraordinary. 

The 2018 Zinfandel Fredericks Vineyard is a pretty wine, but it is also one of the more unsettled wines in this range. I have no doubt it will come together, but today, it is a bit awkward. The depth and persistence are there, but some of the detail is obscured by recent blending of the three lots that make up this wine.

The 2018 Zinfandel Fredericks Vineyard has a medium to deep ruby-purple color. It offers slowly unfolding aromas of tar, apricot, aniseed and earth. The palate is medium-bodied with a grainy, fresh frame and understated fruits, finishing softly.
