I always enjoy it when a wine that we start to carry based on a customer recommendation not only catches on with other customers, but also becomes a staff favorite! There are so many wines out there, and we try as many as we can, but it's always great when our customers share with us their favorites. I have to believe that if one person has had a wine somewhere locally, it's likely that others who shop here have also tried and liked the wine, or will like the wine once they've had the opportunity to try it.

One wine that fits into this category is the Scarbolo Pinot Grigio from Friuli. This is a wine that we've now carried for two years based on a customer's recommendation and their initial order of a couple of cases. We tried the wine when it arrived here, and knew it was a perfect fit for our store.

Since then, we've had the opportunity to meet Valter Scabolo on a couple of occasions, and it's always refreshing to meet a winery proprietor who is hands on with all aspects of wine production for his estate, and seems to truly love his wines and the wine business in general. To take the time out of a busy schedule in running his operations, especially one where he is so hands on, to visit the United States, and the many accounts here that support his products really shows that he enjoys the whole process from grapegrowing, to harvest, to winemaking, to following the wines through the lines of distribution.

Valter Scarbolo is the second generation in his family to make wine off of the same property. Being so hands on, and also being a small-production winery allows this wine to be much more complex than most other Pinot Grigios.

The tasting notes from the wine production team read: "The color is an intense straw yellow with copper hues. The aromas are that of golden delicious apples, honey and wild flowers. Additional time in the bottle before release lends harmonious structure and an elegant balance to this often simplified varietal. A perfect wine as an aperitif or to pair with soups, antipasti, light meat and fish dishes."
