Domaine Grand Veneur Cotes du Rhone Reserve 2010
Rated 91 Points by the Wine Advocate
Only $14.99 per bottle!
In our new 'New Arrivals' newsletter that I sent out last Friday I mentioned this wine as just having arrived, and that I would be soon be sending out a newsletter featuring it. Seeing that we have already had a great response to this wine, and especially after tasting this wine last Thursday, I wanted to make sure that everyone had the opportunity to give this great value in Cotes du Rhone a try!
This is not your simple, fruity, non-structured Cotes du Rhone, which we unfortunately have to try all too often. When Cotes du Rhone is good, it's really good, reminiscent of its big brother Chateauneuf du Pape. But when it's simple and light, it becomes either astringent or flabby, and that is the type of Cotes du Rhone we are consistently tasting and barring from being for sale here at Varmax Liquor Pantry!
This wine tasted very good as soon as the bottle was opened, but continued to develop in the glass, as any good wine will do, over the course of a couple of hours. Not that it made it this long, but I would have guessed that this would have been even better on the second day that it was opened.
From the Wine Advocate - Rated 91 Points - "As for their other values, the 2010 Grand Veneur Cotes du Rhone Reserve (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Cinsault) displays loads of ripe flavors. It is very concentrated for a Cotes du Rhone, and is actually an amazing wine. Classic garrigue, black cherry liqueur, lavender, licorice and spice box are all present in this full-bodied, intense, and rich Cotes du Rhone that sells for a song. This is a sensational effort to drink over the next 4-5 years, although it might last even longer."
Cheers!
