Today's featured wine is one that we have carried and loved for years. Many of you will be familiar with it...during a recent distributor change and lapse in inventory, we received many requests for this wine, and disappointment at it not being in stock.
Well, the good news is that it's back!
The better news is that it is at a new sale price of $11.99 (regularly $14.99).
Juan Gil Red Jumilla 2009
This big boy of a Spanish red is made from 40 year old vines of Monastrell, otherwise known as Mourvedre, a grape varietal known for its intensity of flavor, weight, and deep, dark color. After harvest, the wine is fermented and aged for a year in French oak barrels. These barrels are what gives the wine its structure and balance, counteracting the rich, ripe fruit flavors of the grape with some wood tannin, and smoky nuances.
Overall, this is an easy to like wine, that overdelivers at its price point (especially at the new low, $11.99 price). It's very drinklable and enjoyable both alone and with a variety of meals.
Also rated 89 Points by the Wine Advocate - "The 2009 Juan Gil delivers greater aromatic complexity, sweeter, riper fruit, and a bit more power (at the expense of some subtlety). It is a pleasure-bent offering that can be enjoyed now and over the next 6-8 years."
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers!
