A Great Value in Sauternes for the Holidays!

Share |

Lions de Suduiraut Sauternes 2009

The Second Label of the esteemed Chateau Suduiraut, this is a terrific opportunity to have true Sauternes for a fraction of what true Sauternes regularly costs!

Coming in at only $14.99 per bottle for a half bottle (375ml) of Sauternes, this is such a great value, it's one to take home in bulk! When I saw the pricing and the pedigree of this wine, I was very skeptical. In fact, in order to lock this wine in at this price, I took a big risk, something that we very rarely do here, which was to purchase this wine before having the opportunity to try it. So of course, when the wine arrived, I couldn't wait to crack open a bottle!

After pouring it in a glass, the first thing that I noticed also happened to impress me a lot, which was the nose. A true Sauternes nose with the smells of botrytis, honey, and a touch of caramel. By smell, you wouldn't know that this was a true bargain in the world of Sauternes. On the palate, this is also a definitive Sauternes. Medium-bodied, and very fruit-forward, the first thought that came to my mind was how easy to drink this Sauternes is. Forget the thought that Sauternes are so sweet you can only have a little bit. This wine has a nice amount of acidity to back up the sweetness, and is a true younger relative to the Chateau Suduiraut.

According to the website, this wine is made to be consumed in its youth (while waiting for your Chateau Suduiraut to mature in your cellars), and is a delicious, uncomplicated Sauternes that makes for a great compliment to desserts, figs, and cheeses this holiday season, that also is nice on the wallet.

Happy Holidays!
