Some of you may remember this wine from years past. We at Varmax have been huge fans of Hall Cabernet Sauvignon for a few vintages now, and it seems that each vintage gets better than the next.
This wine also has a great pedigree in garnering terrific ratings from the wine press, with the last 3 vintages all being rated over 90 Points from either or both of the Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate. This vintage, the 2008, received a whopping 95 Points, the highest this wine has received in its history!
Hall Winery is located within the famous Sacrache Vineyard in Rutherford. In total, Hall's vineyards amount to 500 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. Their goal is to make limited production, single vineyard wines from these varietals, and from what I've tasted, they are succeeding. Not that they have gone into this venture blindly, Kathryn Hall has been around wineries in California with her family since 1972. In a side note, she is was also the United States Ambassador to Austria from 1997 through 2001!
Hall Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008
From the Wine Advocate - 95 Points - "As for those in bottle, my favorite is the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa. Most of this comes from the Sacrashe Vineyard as well. A dense, full-bodied wine with lots of creme de cassis, charcoal, licorice and forest floor, the wine is opulent and already delicious and powerful. It should continue to drink well for at least 12-15+ years." |
