The Tenuta di Sesta estate has been established since the 15th century, and has been producing Brunello di Montalcino as soon as the DOC was established in 1966. This makes is one of the very first estates to produce a Brunello di Montalcino.
It seems that even after all of those years, Tenuta di Sesta knows how to impress the modern wine press, garnering two great reviews.
As a vintage, 2006 is a very exciting one. Destined to be a classic modern vintage for the region of Brunello di Montalcino, it seems that every '06 Brunello that I taste is delicious! Ripe and powerful, with great structure, these wines are delicious to drink right now, but will surely be evolving in the cellar for years to come.
Rated 93 Points by the Wine Advocate: The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty, seamless wine layered with succulent red cherries, dried flowers, spices and herbs. This is a beautifully open, textured Brunello that is already highly enjoyable. The wine continues to open up nicely in the glass, with plenty of generous, radiant red fruit that flows through to the engaging finish. This isn’t the last word on complexity, but its impossible to fault the wine, as it is totally delicious and hugely enjoyable. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024."
Rated 92 Points by the Wine Spectator: "A rich, ripe red, boasting a core of cherry, raspberry and tobacco flavors. Though firm, with bright acidity, everything is well-proportioned, with undertones of licorice and underbrush playing out on the long finish. Best from 2014 through 2027."
I know I've sent emails out about a few differnet '06 Brunellos already, but this is another that you should surely add to your collection!
Cheers!
