Absolutely Delicious New Arrival - 91WS, 89-92WA

When I tasted this wine last Thursday, before I knew the price I knew the wine was a winner. We tasted a lot of wine on that day, and this one stood out far above the rest, and in fact stood above most wines that I've tried recently. This was what went through my head before I knew the price, and before I knew the ratings. We taste a lot of wine - swirl, sniff spit, repeat. This wine, the               Le Colombier Vacqueyras Cuvee G 2009 demanded to be re-tasted again and again.

From the region of Vacqueyras in the Rhone Valley, this is much more complex than a basic Cotes du Rhone. In fact, to me, it rivaled many Chateauneuf du Papes that I've had recently, and is also drinking very, very well right now. Made of Grenache and Syrah, usually the two main grapes in Chateauneuf du Pape, this wine has a great balance, a refined elegance, wonderful structure, and typical Rhone power. It is truly impressive!

From the Wine Spectator - Rated 91 Points - "Rich and layered, with lush, velvety structure carrying the crushed plum, red currant, raspberry and blackberry fruit. Lots of violet, graphite and cocoa notes flow through the finish. Drink now through 2014."

From the Wine Advocate - Rated 89-92 Points - "Made from an equal part blend of cement-aged Grenache and barrel-aged Syrah, the 2009 Vacqueyras Cuvee G possesses an inky/plum/purple color as well as a sweet perfume of black fruits and charcoal, full-bodied power, a massive, thick style and solid tannins and structure. Everything is present for a graceful evolution of 7-10 years."

As you can see, I'm not the only one who was impressed by this beauty of a wine, and I think that if you gave it a try, you would truly be impressed as well.

Cheers!
